- 2 Integrated Resorts (IR) in Singapore will open in 2009 and 2010, creating 35,000 extra jobs.
- Johor’s Iskandar Dvelopment Region will be partially operational in 2010, with 800,000 jobs when it is completed in 2030.
Polytechnics are over-subscribed. Many will not get the chance…
The Straits Times 13 February: “Polytechnic courses in Tourism and Hospitality are now the hottest ticket to excellent job prospects.”
These are over-subscribed by 2-5 times. Polytechnics have increased their intake but can only produce 9,000 graduates / year but there are 60,000 new jobs.
Firms are giving scholarships and internships to try and get around the acute staff shortage.
So there will be a severe shortage of more than 40,000 experienced staff in 2 years’ time.
